- Usually large machines, vertical spindle mounted on a cross rail over a large table.
- Bridgeport Type Mill
- Milling machine manufactured similar or identical to the Bridgeport knee mill.
- CAD/CAM
- Computer-aided technologies using a computer to aid in the design, analysis, and manufacturing of work pieces.
- Chip Conveyors
- A mechanical system to move metal debris from the metal removal process.
- CNC
- Computer Numerical Control
- CNC Mills
- A milling machine that is controlled by a computer.
- Collet Chuck
- A cone-shaped chuck used for holding cylindrical pieces in a lathe via a collet.
- Cutting Tools
- Replaceable inserts held in tool holders.
- Deburring Machines
- Remove burrs from a piece of machined work piece.
- Drilling, Drill Press
- Produce a hole in something by the use of a drill bit.
- EDM
- Electrical Discharge Machining
- EDM Sinker
- Machining by use of an electrically charged electrode to burn the geometry of the electrode into a metal work piece.
- EDM Wire
- Electrical discharge machining (EDM) uses a traveling wire electrode that passes through the work piece.
- Fabrication
- Applies to the manufacturing process of cutting, shaping, sawing, and bending material.
- Fire Suppression
- A mechanism so as to reduce combustibility or slow the spread of fire.
- Graphite Machining
- Process of machining graphite material.
- Grinders
- Surface, Cylindrical, Centerless – process designed to remove material from work pieces by means of an abrasive wheel.
- Horizontal Machining Center
- The spindle is in a horizontal plane.
- Index Table
- Table is capable of rotating, or indexing, so as to reposition a work piece for machining.
- Injection Molding
- A manufacturing process for forming objects, as of plastic or metal, by heating the molding material to a fluid state and injecting it into a mold.
- Ironworker
- Multi-function fabricating machine used to punch, shear and cut material.
- Lathes
- A machine in which a work piece is rotated about an axis and shaped by a fixed tool.
- Leasing
- A contract by which one party conveys land, property, services, etc., to another for a specified time, in return for agreed compensation.
- Machine Tool
- A power-driven tool, such as a lathe or mill, used for machining a work piece.
- Machining Center
- Work piece is stationary; the spindle rotates, while the table moves to position the work piece to the spindle.
- Marking Systems
- Process of placing identifying marks on a work piece.
- Milling Machines
- A machine tool in which a horizontal or vertical spindle rotates a cutting tool above a table. The spindle turns, the work piece does not.
- Pallet Changers
- A worktable that can be moved into and out of the machining area.
- Parts Marking
- Laser Marking.
- Plasma Cutting
- A method of cutting metal work pieces with a jet of air, ionized by an air compressor.
- Press Brakes
- A press brake, also known as a brake press or just brake, is a machine tool for bending sheet and plate material.
- Preventative Maintenance
- The care and servicing by personnel for the purpose of maintaining equipment and facilities in satisfactory operating condition.
- Retention knobs
- A knob screwed into the end of the tool holder that locks the tool holder in the spindle.
- Retrofitting
- A retrofit is a change to improve an already existing piece of equipment.
- Rotary Tables
- Rotary table is a precision work-positioning device used in metalworking.
- Rotary Transfer
- Dial indexing machines used for machining one or two sides of a work piece.
- Sawing
- A hand or power tool or a machine used to cut hard material (as wood, metal, or bone) and equipped usually with a toothed blade or disk.
- Screw Machines
- A screw machine is a metalworking machine tool (lathe) usually used in the high-volume manufacture of turned components.
- Shear
- Process of cutting metal.
- Software
- The programs, routines, and symbolic languages that control the functioning of the hardware and direct its operation.
- Spindle
- The spindle is a rotating shaft receiving and transmitting to the work piece or the cutting tool.
